Op artist Bridget Riley is said to have tried to sue a fashion designer for creating a dress that resembled one of her paintings. At the risk of sounding controversial, we’d like to say that Op art did not invent trippy patterns. Look to the history of textiles and you will see: weavers and knitters have been working the optical effects of geometry for millennia.
